Fight Foundation works with Tri-Counties Regional Center as a Social Recreation Vendor. The ultimate goal is to have your child in our regular classes. However, we understand that not everyone is the right fit to be in a group class at first. Our goal is to get them ready for a regular group class so they can socialize with their peers without interfering with our other students. Regional Center clients will learn how to exercise as well as the fundamentals of mixed martial arts.
Here are the steps Regional Center Clients need to follow:
1. Fill out liability waiver on our website. Schedule your free evaluation to see if we can help your child/adult.
2. Trial Class/evaluation. We will see if your child is fit for a regular class or needs to start with individual lessons first. Sometimes we can put the students of ASD in a group class, but they will require a one on one.
3. If they like the class, e-mail your service coordinator to let them know you want to start lessons. Please cc me in the e-mail so I have your service coordinator’s contact information. My email is: cherry@fight-foundation.org.
4. Ask them to approve at least 2 months. If you think your child will like the program longer, as for a longer period of time. If your child is in school, we like to do things with the school schedule because routine is important. Therefore, semesters at a time are helpful. If your child ends up not liking it for the time approved, we will not bill the Regional Center and we will let your service coordinator know they no longer want to do the program. Martial arts learning does take time and please be patient with us and your child.
5. You must purchase gear on your own. Gloves, shin guards, mouth piece, groin cup and possibly helmet depending on age and maturity. Children are required to wear uniform shirt or plain black shirt. Black or red shorts. We understand that people with autism have a lot of body sensitivities. If they do, we will slowly integrate the gear. We want the experience to be pleasant, but of course, have the discipline of martial arts. We require uniforms so it’s not a distraction to other kids.
6. Classes are twice a week for group classes. Group classes are $240/month. Days and times differ depending on age. Classes are still $240/month even if you can attend once a week. Private lessons are $55/lesson. If they would like to add the jiu-jitsu program to their membership, it’s an additional $100. If the client wants to add Fight Team to their schedule, it’s an additional $100. They can also decide if they want to do the BJJ program alone. Private lessons are a case by case basis and the goal is to put the ASD participant in group classes. Remember, this is a social recreation program as our goal is to socialize the Regional Center client.
7. If you’re interested in testing, you must purchase a gi, $150. Testing is every 10 weeks, please request for testing fees if you plan on testing. Testing fees are $45 to cover extra training.
8. If all goes well, you will be given a start date!
